Divestment supporters contend that MIT cannot just reduce it’s footprint and think that’s enough to solve climate change. This is because if MIT didn’t exist, then it would reduce it’s footprint as low as it could be; however, climate change would still be a major problem. So in the grand scheme of things, reducing its footprint won’t have much of an impact, little things add up. If all institutions were aiming for net zero-carbon emissions, that might go a long way. AD-MIT encourages you to join the MIT Climate Conversation on Thursday March 12 at MIT Building 3 Room 207 from 4-6pm to discuss reducing MIT’s carbon footprint at Creating the Roadmap: Envisioning/Reducing MIT’s Carbon Footprint.
